Pest Management.

The first synthetic pesticide created was 2,4-D as a joint effort between the US and British governments as a strategy during WW2 to limit food production of our enemies. Synthetic pesticides allowed pest control and yield increases due to decreased weed competition and less human labor. However, within 10 years of the commercial introduction of 2,4-D the first resistant weeds were discovered.

Challenges exist today more than ever with abundant weed, disease and insect resistance issues. Most weed scientists believe that we have 8-10 years left of chemistry-based weed control before we have few options remaining. Thus, sound pest management plans must be used for all if we wish to extend the life of current chemistry options.

Our knowledge of product sites of action, pest ID, adjuvants and technologies make Farmer 1St Agronomy an ideal partner to guide you through pest control challenges. It took 8-10 years for ALS and glyphosate-based chemistry to develop significant control issues. We started experiencing issues with the new group 4 (2,4-D/Dicamba) technologies just 3 years after their broad introduction.
